Looking to move out of Leslieville to somewhere a bit more exotic, where you can enjoy nature at its most pristine? A lot of people have broken from the mundane to make a home in Alaska, and most of those have chosen an Anchorage zip code, according to the numbers. 40% of the population of the state lives in this city of 260,000 people!
You might picture Anchorage as a bit of a backwards, boom type city in the middle of nowhere, but in fact aside from the middle of nowhere part nothing could be further from the truth. Anchorage has a strong economy and is an important city in the United States; it is a Mecca for tourists traveling from their homes in Brampton and is also a major natural resource development center.
Anchorage also boasts a diverse range of real estate options. Those used to condos in downtown Toronto won't be impressed by the variety of developments in the city. After all, there are a lot less people in Anchorage and condos have never been a real going concern where there is plenty of space.
However, what the buildings themselves may lack in terms of quantity, they certainly make up for when it comes to views. There are condo units available in downtown Anchorage, but the views they present are unlike anything to be found in the south. On one side of any mid-rise downtown condo, owners will enjoy an unblocked view of the amazing Northern Pacific. Whales and other sea life are a frequent sight. And on the other side, of course, is the pristine wilderness Alaska is famous for. Mountains and glaciers greet you every morning when you wake up!
As far as value goes, many of those condos are in the middle ranges. You will find a few ultra modern units selling for almost a million, but these are definitely the exception. Many condo units in Anchorage sell for around $300,000 or so.
The stand alone home in Anchorage is much more diverse than the condo market, with dozens of different types of homes and settings available. There are houses in the city not much different than Oshawa homes to the south. They have four bedrooms and three bathrooms, sell for around $350,000, and of course you get that wonderful northern living allowance.
The big difference between real estate in Anchorage and Georgetown Ontario real estate is what you get with your property. Even downtown, the wilderness is not very far away. You're likely to sight moose, deer, sheep, black bears, and maybe even wolves on your lawn on any given morning. The further out of the center of town you live, the more likely you are to enjoy these sights (safely of course!).
As far as where homes are situated, well that is entirely up to you as the buyer. Locate along the coast, up against the glacier, on the banks of a river or creek, or on a nice plot of land in the bush. Anchorage offers a variety of real estate, in a manner unlike anywhere else in the world!
